Chapter 13 Seminar Report
posted in Bankruptcy Training Seminars |On October 27, 2007, the Chapter 13 Training Seminar was held in Grove City, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus.) The group was small, but this was a plus because everyone received personalized attention.
The seminar actually began when I picked everyone up at the hotel and took them to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Then we drove to Donatoes Restaurant to begin the seminar in the meeting room.
Every time I give a seminar, I am always impressed by the people who attend – and this group was no different. John had worked as a scientist and his mind worked in a highly detailed manner. This type of mind is excellent for the bankruptcy field because he can logically understand the basis of the law and relate it to real life.
Sharon, another one of the attendees, had worked several years in Washington D.C. in the political arena. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down and talk with her for over 2 hours when the seminar was over. Sharon is a brilliant woman and everything she talks about is so interesting. In fact, Sharon and I were able to discuss Jesus Christ and share our faith, which is something I don’t get to do everyday. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Sharon and I thank her for attending the seminar.
Terry McNeal, who also attended is a Board Member of the NAVBA. She has a vast amount of experience in real estate and she also is a brilliant lady with a great deal of knowledge that I enjoyed spending the day with.
From an instructor’s standpoint, I will have to say that this was one of the best seminars I have ever had. And I owe all the credit to John, Sharon and Terry who made this happen. I know that all three of them will do a fantastic job working in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy. In fact, Sharon is going to apply for work through the Bar Association Placement Service so she can actually work inside a law firm and learn the field from this perspective.
THE SEMINAR MATERIAL
The Chapter 13 training seminar material came from the new book I am writing: “An Introduction to the Chapter 13 Plan.” This book will be an 8.5 x 11 size (like a standard sheet of paper) and include a training CD inside.
The material in the book walks you though downloading the Test File so that you have a bankruptcy petition to start with. Next, we work through a series of skill-building techniques in order to understand debt classifications and the correct calculation of monthly payments.
Because John, Sharon and Terry brought their laptops with them, they were able to work hands-on while the material was being presented. Everyone loved this method of training because they could ask questions and obtain personalized attention as we went along.
Finally, at the end of the day, we had worked through all the error messages on the Chapter 13 plan, gave the debtor(s) a payment they could easily afford with a 94% payout to the unsecured creditors. This petition was an example of a good Chapter 13 Plan that is balanced and fair for all parties. And you will get to experience the same materials when my new book and CD are released on November 1, 2007.
ONLINE TRAINING –VS – SEMINARS
During the seminar I asked for John, Sharon and Terry’s feedback about conducting seminars online to save people travel expenses. But we came up with two significant problems online training seminars create:
1. Most people are unable to sit at a computer for longer than 2 hours in order to attend an online training class. Seminars, where you can physically interact with others and learn hands-on from a training instructor, cannot be duplicated over the internet.
2. The software to conduct online training is still in its infancy. For example: most online training software requires everyone to download a plug-in before they can attend. Attendees also must call a telephone number (often resulting in a long-distance charge) and login to a web page where they must enter a username and password.
Personally, I have attended several online seminars and found them to be a “royal pain.” One online training seminar I attended took 3 attempts before I could login. Then, I spent the next 15 minutes listening to the problems others were having logging in. At another seminar I hung up the phone after 5 minutes because the static was so bad my eardrums were hurting.
What does all this mean? I believe I am going to back off pursuing online training at this time. Instead, I am working on a way to reduce the overhead expenses for the seminars so I can offer them at a lower price to you. I am going to do everything in my power to reduce the cost to $150, which will make them affordable for more people. I was unable to do this in the past because the overhead costs were so tremendously high.
One way to immediately reduce the overhead costs and make the seminars affordable for everyone is to hold them in Grove City, Ohio (where I am located). I realize this will create travel expenses for many of you, but the lodging will only cost you $51 per night at the Microtel Inn in Grove City, Ohio. Also, if you book your airline reservation at least 1 month in advance, you can fly practically round trip anywhere in the U.S. for $150-$200.
So let’s add this up. $150 for the seminar, $150 for airfare, $50 for lodging= $350. That is LESS than what one 713Training.Com seminar cost in 2005, 2006 and 2007. I believe that is enough of a cost savings to warrant a trip to Grove City, Ohio for the best training you can find in preparing Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions.
Therefore, I plan to hold 2 seminars per month beginning in January 2008, but before I make a commitment I need to locate other low-cost meeting places. Watch your email for updates. I hope one day to meet you in person at a 713Training.Com seminar and that you can obtain the training you need to succeed in the field of bankruptcy.
ONE LAST NOTE
Today, October 27, 2007, marked my 19th year owning my own business. I started a company by the name of Networking Exchange on October 27, 1988. I cannot believe it has been that long. Boy, time flies when you are having fun.
Have a wonderful week.
