Seminar Report – Sept 2006

On Saturday, September 23, we held our last Ohio-based Bankruptcy Training Seminar for 2006. The seminar was a great success – however, two people called at the last minute who wanted to attend and it overbooked our conference room. Since it was too late to change the size of our room with the Midwest Hotel, we just borrowed some extra chairs from the waiting area and were able to accommodate everyone.

In this seminar we decided to try something new. Angie and I began by briefly covering an entire bankruptcy petition. While I trained the group, Angie followed with me on the computer. This gave the group the benefit of watching a visual demonstration of the Forms and Schedules and I noticed they learned and retained much more.

In the second half of the seminar we specifically trained on the Statement of Affairs. First I went through every Item of the Statement of Affairs. As I trained the group, Angie showed them visually how to enter the information properly within the Items. This method proved to be a great success also.

Next, I gave the group a 2-page test. This test consisted of a list of items that needed to be input into the proper areas of the Statement of Affairs. I was very pleased that almost everyone had a perfect score – which tells me the group was able to absorb and learn from the training. (This is a great accomplishment for an instructor.)

Two of the attendees at the seminar elected to pay for the 1-day one-on-one training. Nancy and Bobbi began their training when Angie picked them up from the hotel on Sunday, September 24. Angie trained Bobbi and I trained Nancy. It was a pleasure to train both of them because they had done their homework before attending the training. Both Bobbi and Nancy brought their bankruptcy book and workbook with them. Bobbi had taken the time to color-code and highlight areas within the book and workbook so she could ask me specific questions. I was impressed to say the least.

Nancy was also a very smart cookie. She had intensely studied and restudied the book, workbook and 6-hour training video prior to coming for her one-on-one training. This allowed us to skip past the basics and dig into more advanced training which will be extremely beneficial as she builds her company.

Our next appointment for the 713Training Center is Stacey who is flying up from Florida on September 27. Stacey has already built a very successful notary signing agent business so I am sure she has what it takes to build a virtual bankruptcy assistant business also.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoy training and helping others to build their businesses. As an instructor, it lets me know I am doing something worthwhile that is benefiting others. There is no doubt in my mind that within one year, there are going to be a large group of virtual bankruptcy assistants helping to save law firms money and improving the bankruptcy petition drafting skills that is greatly lacking in law firms today.
